Y Mountain
Sept. 22, 1960
I know you are a little mountain
I see the one beyond, all great
Yet clouds lie in your upper canyons
And wind around your head
And trickle down your sides.
You’re turning red in the rain–in autumn
You were gold a month ago
And verdurous in the spring.
I know you are a little mountain
But now in rain
The sky comes down to meet
Your upturned face
And kiss with fall, the lips that summer
dried and cracked.
And there is only you and wispy silver
sky, all one
Above my eyes.
I know you are a little mountain
But now you fill my world.
