My Wilderness is Dark and Frightening

My Wilderness is Dark and Frightening

Nights when the moon is black

It glooms around and waits for me

The wind that in the day

Skates the leaves across the path

And bows the trees in graceful sway

Betrays me in the night

My fear is dark and frightening.

There are mind shapes moving

In and out among the black brush

Haunting noises break the awful hush

There by day squirrels play

And small birds fend

At night wolves and bears attend

My wilderness is dark and frightening

My wilderness is me.

I am that unbroken wood

Where grotesque fear

Dances in and out at will

Oh yes my wilderness is dark and frightening.
