A Beggar Child

A Beggar Child

A child sat along the way

So tiny so hungry so sad and gray

Her thin face with hunger was draw on

For no food had she since the brake of dawn

Dusk was falling and t’was growing

But the child’s cloak was ragged and old

She had no home, no parent or kin

She had no food to fill her within

She had no friend to fill her with love

So she prayed to the good God above

And the next day at the brake of dawn

The beggar child lay still and gone

Her face was sad, pale and cold

Her lips were white, her eyes were closed

God took her in his loving hand

And led her into heaven grand.

No child in heaven is ever cold

There no child’s cloak is ever old

For that is the only peaceful way

And I hope its that way on earth someday.
