The Child Still Lives
8/15/55, blank verse
Silence,
White clad nurses watching breathlessly,
The doctor
bending over the child
the child white faced, silent.
A movement, ever so slight
He lives
The child still lives
A breath pained and slow.
The hipoduxmis,
Life giving drug,
Slowly drained.
Another breath, easier.
The doctor,
Again he bends over the child
Then straightens
A sigh of relief
The child still lives
